Ford mondeo where is gearbox oil filler

Check the oil level on the end of the dipstick. The dipstick has a "Max" and "Min" line on its end. The fluid level should be between the "Min" and "Max" marks. If it is below the "Min" level, your car needs more gearbox oil. Page: 1 2. Where is the manual gearbox oil drain plug on our mk3 mondeo? Done a search on the 'net, but come up with nowt.

Has anyone got the same car, and if possible post a picture please? Damned if I don't!!!! They don't usually fit a drain plug now as they did years ago and I think you find that you only have a top up level threaded hole on the side of the gearbox somewhere.

If a service garage needs to drain the gearbox oil for any reason they will normally use a long pump with a flexible pipe and suck the oil out. I'm told that because the oil is contained in a separate housing and doesn't actually get contaminated with any engine oil it doesn't ever need changing. Personally I think it's a poor idea as all oil molecules break down over time with wear but I supposed it all down to reducing the cost very much the same as the they don't incorporate grease nipples into cables any more.

Surely there has to be some way to change the oil? Join talkford. Lots of info like that available. Side of the diff above and to the side on the 6 speed. These 2 figures must not exceed kg.

Unless the manufacturer has set a lower limit. Synthetic oils should never deteriorate. The only reason engine oils need regular changing is because carbon gets into them from combustion. This doesn't happen in gear boxes so they should only ever need topping occasionally. Mines the 5 speed.

Most Fords don't have drain plugs on their gearboxes. Gearbox oil lasts for the life of the vehicle. My oil level was around mm below the plug, a bit higher and it would start leaking out.

Remove the engine under cover belly pan. On the lower side of the gearbox there will be a visible drain plug pic. Clean the area and carefully unscrew it with an Allen key, be ready to catch the draining oil in a decent size container.

Drain the old oil. I drained a total of approx 1. Maybe I did not get it to drain fully because of a slight angle of the car being lifted on jack stands. Oil after km at least officially Happily - no visible metal particles. Replace old copper washer pic.

Position funnel with a hose in comfortable spot, I wedged my funnel in the engine compartment under the bonnet so it would not tilt, and routed the hose to the fill port. Fill the gearbox with new oil. Fordwiki claims this gearbox needs 2 liters of oil, some claim that it has to be filled until oil leaks from the fill port.

As my car was a bit tilted and upon opening the fill port initially oil was pretty much at that level, I filled it up with the same 1. Putting in more would result in it leaking out before fill plug could be screwed in. Inspect the drain plug for leaks.
