The rapper had been indicted in but on Thursday, a second Caddo Parish grand jury returned a no true bill clearing Mystikal, whose real name is Michael Lawrence Tyler, the parish district attorney's office said in a news release. Tyler, 50, surrendered to authorities in August when he learned there was a warrant out for his arrest on rape and kidnapping charges. Tyler was accused of a sexual assault at a Shreveport casino in October Under Louisiana state law, Mystikal will be eligible for parole after two years behind bars.
In Louisiana, aggravated rape carries a mandatory sentence of life without probation. After numerous meetings with the state prosecutor, Mystikal's lawyer J. David Bourland was able to whittle the charges down to sexual battery in exchange for a guilty plea. In early December, Mystikal's lawyer filed a motion to withdraw his client's guilty plea to sexual battery of the infirmed and no contest to extortion when he learned that prosecutors had given judge Marabella the videotape of the sexual assault.
Mystikal hesitantly admitted to the AP that a sexual encounter did happen. He described it as consensual, believing the victim stated she was raped rather than admit the indiscretion to her boyfriend. The woman or a representative for her could not be reached for an interview. The AP was unable to obtain the secret grand jury documents that were the basis for the dismissal as they remain sealed.
Prosecutors do not plan to recharge Mystikal, and will not charge the victim, believing she had no improper motives. The acts were filmed and the video would seal his fate. Hoping to dodge the potential life sentence a rape charge can carry in Louisiana, Mystikal pleaded guilty in to sexual battery and served six years in prison. So how could he find himself in a similar predicament years later? Watch how I'm going to shake this world up now. I want reparation! The stylist said she was forced to have sex with all three men in exchange for their silence.
As part of the plea bargain, all three pleaded guilty. Mystikal has five years of probation upon his release and has to be registered as a sex offender in Louisiana. Although Mystikal pleaded guilty to forcing the female to perform sex acts, he initially denied the assault. Still, when asked if he feels rappers are targeted, he made no excuses. We gotta take responsibility for what we do too," he said.
We have to tighten up and not blame others. You can't be foolish especially when you're successful.
