Thanks everyone, I ended up getting the A4's. All i needed to do was have my 53 wedge bent to 54 and now my wedges are perfect. Also, they felt really nice just chipping on my carpet, i just can't wait to game them. If I look at the Adams website irons section I do not see A4's?. If I search Adams's A4's they pop up on the Adams website.
Are they current? They were replaced by the CB2 irons. Both have similar forging with the CB2 having a tiny bit more mass behind the sweet spot. I have the CB2 4 iron and use it with the A4 set. They hit very similar. Not a marginal improvement across the board in performance, sound, feedback. A quantum improvement. Maybe the best irons in my 30 years of obsession with golf equipment.
So much so, that after I bought the set in graphite. I decided I wanted my backup to be the same set in steel. There is a bewildering amount of equipment aimed at the mid-handicapper. Every major brand has a shortcoming, IMHO. MIzuno's steel feel harsh when missed out toward the toe. Callaways lack responsiveness. Ditto Cobra, Cleveland. Pings are no longer made by engineers. They are made by a marketing company. Their best work is behind them. These sticks made the gold category two years' running in Golf Digest.
The publication does not have a monopoly on wisdom but you can get an idea of what their testers discovered with these irons. Folks, he is talking about the "retail' A4R irons and hybrid set. They are current, but for some reason not on Adams website. The A4 Forged are not a current model and you have to search to get the old website link. I have a complete set of the cast Adams A4r's. I was contemplating buying the forged A4 gap wedge and sand wedge. I've seen people suggest combing sets in this manner in a discussion with the JPX cast and JPX forged and wanted to get people's thoughts.
Thanks in advance. Purely based on preference. I, personally, have 2 other sets of wedges that I carry no matter what irons I'm using that day and I believe the major, majority carry wedges that do not match there irons. Yep, my sand wedge that greatly improved my plan 15 yards and in is a Cleveland. I have a problem with "independent wedges" on fairway lies from outside that range though I purchased the A7's approximately a year ago and could not be happier.
Not sure if this is the place for this. I was looking at both the A4 and A7. Great, great feel and performance. I also had them with some steel shafts, and the feel wasn't nearly as sweet.
Don't know anything about the A4R's. That other thread is pretty extensive. What are your concerns with the clubs that the other thread doesn't answer? Thanks in advance. It would be different if I could hit both first but none of the shops in my area Louisville have them so I'm going by the advice of others. Sometimes, I think we get too wrapped up on issues that are truly peripheral.
It had never occurred to me to wonder about the grooves and how deep they are. The type ball plays a bigger role than the grooves with spin on most shots. I am a 10, have played many, many years, had many, many, many iron sets, and the A4's are probably my favorite of them all.
Look great, great feel, great performance, good distance and forgiveness. If I were you, I'd buy the set that was in the best shape, had shafts that are right for you probably an R, maybe graphite , and were closest to what you need as a lie flat, upright, etc.
If they are both the same price, then why wouldn't you get the forged? I love mine and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. In my opinion, the A4 Boxer hybrids leave a bit to be desired, however. I'm replacing my 3h this season. I have a set of TM with S shafts. I know I need an R. I realized I can get a new set of irons for near the same cost to have my year old set re-shafted, re-gripped and fitted.
I suspect the "forged" set are actually "form forged", but regardless, that seems like the obvious choice all things being equal. Callaway Rogue JavaScript is disabled. They're practically giving these away right now at a local store no way to try them out first and they look pretty good.
I like the compact head and wonder what the ball flight might be like. They're cheap enough where it might be worth buying them even if I replace the shafts later on. JR Well-known member. Joined Jun 7, Messages 10, Reaction score Handicap Never owned them, but I have hit them, and they rock.
Thanks JR. I played the A4's and they're great clubs Kinda regret having sold them. I had the forged though, if that matters to you, if they're cheap, I'd definitely give them a shot. You may be impressed! T0AD ups to downs. I like them mostly because they look like golf clubs and not shovels. When hit on the button, you can't even feel the ball. You can also work the crap out of them if you have the skillz.
For the price, top notch. And yes, cast v. Griff Hey Man, Nice Shot. A4r cast, A4 were forged as I recall. Last edited: Sep 4, You must log in or register to reply here.
