In the film, it is shown that she invites men over like a plumber, despite her being married. She is one of the people that Peg visited trying to sell her makeup products. When Peg brought Edward, she immediately developed a crush on him. When she got him alone in her beauty salon, she tried to seduce him but accidentally scared him away.
She then lied to the neighbourhood women that Edward attempted to seduce her. When the police try to deceive them into thinking that he is dead and tell them to return home, she refuses and declares that she wants to see for herself, so she and the mob continue to the mansion. After Kim tells everyone that he died, Joyce, shocked and guilty at what she had done, reluctantly returns home.

In the start of the movie Joyce starts off to be a tease to the plumber as she tries to get him to check her pipes after he fixed her dishwasher but is interrupted by the Avon lady which is peg she responds, "Well Peg, have you gone blind? Can't you see there's a vehicle in my driveway?
Once Edwards in town she gets all her neighbors wound up to go see what he looks like, and instantly she doesn't fall in love but she begins to have the biggest crush on Edward but doesn't make it obvious.
She tends to hide her deep thought feelings through a wall of playing the hard to get card, but imply sees that doesn't work so she tends to arouse Edward with her smile and kind touchy feelings.
